Event Highlight: STEM Fair

We held our STEM Fair from December 25th, 2022 to February 5th 2023.

Participating teams or individuals conducted experimental or research projects that tackled issues in various fields in STEM. They followed the scientific method and received guidance and support from STEMatic Leaders' executive team. Each week, we hosted virtual (optional) workshops that focused on a different step in the scientific method. This allowed participating students to gain more mentorship to guide them as they conduct their projects.

By February 5th, all teams submitted their completed projects. Our judges, consisting of experienced university students studying sectors of STEM, helped decide the top three projects in both the high school and middle school divisions.

Congratulations to our winners:

  • 1st place in middle school division: Sofia Pyatolova

  • 1st place in high school division: Isha Goyal

Thank you to our incredible executive team for hosting the weekly workshops and providing support to all participants!

60+ competitors, 20 cities

Some pictures of the first week's workshop! Our team taught participating students about brainstorming achievable and specific scientific questions. Then, we provided personalized support to teams.

STEMatic Hacks

We held our hackathon, STEMatic Hacks, from September 8-10, 2023.

Our fully virtual hackathon enabled students to develop innovative software programs in response to a prompt related to sustainability! With collaboration and guidance, our participants produced incredible solutions in only two days.

This event allowed youth to gain insight into programming, using unique approaches involving machine learning, computer vision, and relevant hardware components, in a competitive and collaborative environment.

The hackathon took place through email and discord.

We had 20+ competitors ranging from 3 continents!

Engineering Olympiad

We held our Engineering Olympiad from August 17 to August 24, 2022.

Participating teams or individuals simulated the process of engineering and design for three modern-day issues surrounding healthcare, environmental sustainability, and technology. Each theme had a specific issue that the competitors were responsible for developing a solution for. The solutions may come in the form of physical and functional prototypes (e.g. 3D printed object or app), or theoretical designs (e.g. videos or write-ups).

This event allowed youth to gain insight into real-world STEM problems, along with the engineering design process. By developing novel designs (physical or theoretical) to respond to issues from three different sectors of STEM, we hope that students learned more about design and engineering!

Congratulations to the top-scoring projects in each category:

1. Healthcare: Bhavya Modugula and Antarcia Wang

2. Environmental Sustainability: Siya Jariwala, Ankit Kumar, Brianna Evamalm, and Maria Joseph

3. Technology: Arfath Chowdhury

Data Analysis Workshop and Competition

Our Data Analysis Workshop and Competition took place from May 21st to May 23rd, 2022!

The [optional] workshop took place on May 21st, 2022 from 10 AM to 12 PM MDT. Here, experienced individuals on our executive team taught the attendees about data analysis, including information on how to conduct statistical tests (ie. t-tests, ANOVAs, etc.) and how to present findings in a scientific manuscript. It also marked STEMatic Leaders' first year anniversary

The competition took place from May 21st to May 23rd. The participants had to submit scientific manuscripts based on the following topic: Analyzing the impacts of COVID-19 on education, school closures, and hybrid learning. This event allowed youth to gain insight into data analysis, research, and scientific writing in a competitive and collaborating environment.

We had over 40 competitors from 5+ different countries!

Congratulations to our winners:

  • First place: Asmi Vijaywargiya (Grade 9, India)

  • Second place: Yashvardhan Singh (Grade 11, India)

  • Third place: Angelica Chiamaka Alagwu (Grade 12, Nigeria)

Below, you can check out a recording of our data analysis workshop, as well as the background guide we created to help our competitors as they participated in our competition. A huge thank you to our executive team for providing tutorials to cover each step in the process of conducting a data analysis research project, as well as providing a database and background guide to aid our competitors!

STEM Business Competition

Our STEM Business Competition took place from January 1st to January 22nd, 2022!

We provided a prompt for students to create an innovative idea/company on. Then, they experienced weekly business and STEM-related challenges to test their skills.

This event allowed youth to gain insight into technology, along with business, in a competitive and collaborating environment. By developing and maintaining a company, while responding to obstacles on the way, we hope that students learned more about STEM and business.

We had 20 competitors from 4 countries across the globe!

Below, you can check out the opening ceremony and background guide that we sent to competitors; the competition happened online through email + discord.

A huge thank you to our team for creating the background guide and brainstorming unique weekly challenges that emphasize real-life issues that current businesses in our day face.

STEMatic Leaders Education Panel

We held our STEMatic Leaders Education Panel on August 14, 2021.

During it, three accomplished university students spoke about their STEM experiences and provided advice on how to pursue a similar path as them. We are so excited to say that we received an audience of 30 people from all across the world!

In total, our attendees were spread across:
